Having consulted his/her instrumental teacher, anyone who has reached the required standard may audition for entry to the Junior and Senior Orchestras.
For stringed instruments, the required standard for entry to CYO is generally to have reached at least Grade 3 (in the year of making an application to audition).
Wind, Brass and Percussion instrumentalists should ideally have reached Grade 5 standard, but may, in certain circumstances, be accepted without having attained this grade.
The required standard for entry to JCYO is two grades lower than for entry to CYO.
To gain entry to the Senior Orchestra, it is not a prerequisite to have first been a member of the Junior Orchestra. However, membership of the Junior Orchestra provides excellent experience of playing in an orchestral environment and is therefore recommended. It is important to note that membership of the Junior Orchestra does not guarantee subsequent membership of the Senior Orchestra.
Audition forms are sent, each year, to all tutors in Cork City and County for whom we have contact information in our database.
NOTE! Auditions are now closed for the 2011-2012 season. Auditions for entry to our orchestras for autumn 2012 will take place in spring, 2012. Exact dates for auditions will be posted here in due course.
